Tattoo lightening procedures are growing in popularity, and seem to be just as desirable as full tattoo removal. Many tattoo aficionados eventually run out of “prime real estate” for new art. Others are bored with the pieces they currently have, regret the art or the execution, or are enthusiastic about the newer techniques and inks available today.
Cover up tattoos that are placed over an old tattoo may not produce the highest quality art. The artist is restricted to working with and around the existing colors, shapes, and inks. The cover up will, by necessity, use dark colors to ensure the old piece does not show through.
Tattoo lightening by a laser expert can improve the results of a replacement tattoo. Experienced artists tell us that it is hardest to do quality work over existing black ink. Black ink is the easiest for lasers to remove. In only a few sessions, we can remove most of the black ink and lighten most of the other colors without fully removing it. You get space for your new work faster, since the process takes less time than complete removal. Making fewer visits makes the treatment more cost effective. Most importantly, the new artwork will be significantly better than attempting to cover up an old tattoo without lightening it.
Additionally with newer techniques, such as the DeScribe patch, we may be able to accomplish the desired results in as little as two visits!
